KEIM Concrete Systems
Mineral Silicate products from the company founded by the inventor of the fresco preparation and creation process, Adolf Keim, in 1884. Colored mineral silicate paints by KEIM can transform dull and plain concrete and masonry surfaces and stucco. Potassium silicate paints penetrate and permanently combine chemically to the substrate to which they are applied never to blister or peel. The process is called “petrification” and it produces a surface that is vapor permeable, non-combustible, reflective and resistant to fungus, algae and mold.
MVER, Moisture Vapor Emmission Rate testing
The “Tape Down Test”, ASTM D 4263 and the calcium chloride test, ASTM F 1869 are explained in a video. These or similar tests or tests using moisture detection instruments are needed when coating concrete floors with non breathable materials such as high solids epoxies or 100% solids polyurethane. Moisture tests are also needed when laying wood and some laminate floors.
PMMA
Sometimes referred to as acrylic glass, polymethyl methacrylate has been sold under many names, among them are Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex. Plexiglass was the name used by Rohm and Hass Company in 1933, when the material was first brought to market. PMMA is transparent and extremely durable, shatter resistant, and resistant to environmental effects. In addition to floor covering it’s used for automobile instrument panels and the lenses covering lights, lenses for glasses and in appliances. It’s also used for windows, skylights, ballistic protection, signs & displays, bathtubs, LCD screens, furniture and medical and dental applications.
